On December 1st, arguments were heard on this case in the Supreme Court by Scott G. Stewart representing the petitioner. The case questions the constitutionality of a Mississippi state law prohibiting abortions after the fifteenth week of pregnancy except in cases of medical emergencies or fetal abnormalities, and the Supreme Court's decisions in Roe v. Wade (1973) and Planned Parenthood v. Casey (1992). In 2018, Jackson Women’s Health Organization, a clinic and abortion facility in Mississippi, challenged the constitutionality of the "Gestational Age Act" in federal court. The law, enacted March 19, 2018, prohibited abortions after the fifteenth week of pregnancy except in cases of medical emergencies or fetal abnormalities. The U.S. district court granted summary judgment in favor of the plaintiffs, holding that the law was unconstitutional, and put a permanent stop to the law's enforcement. On appeal, the 5th Circuit affirmed the district court's ruling. Agree to become awake, intentional and committed to praying more actively. This type of pray-er can be done by everyone, from home or when driving around, with simple, short prayers. Some people call this drive-by praying. You can pray alone or get someone to join you. Pray for churches examples: If you hear of an event where a church outreach, pray for it. When you think of a church, pray for the Lord to move in that church. If you drive by a church, pray for its revival. If you aren't sure they preach the gospel, pray that they will. In other words, pray not only for your own church but for others. Pray for other topics examples: Consider any place an opportunity to intercede for people to come to know Christ, for believers working there to share their faith with boldness, for people to be discipled, for the kingdom of God to advance. Actively pray for strategic places: like schools, city government, businesses, and events. This can become contagious if you model this type of praying when you are with other believers. So often we focus on the festivities of the season and not the reason. In this month, let's remember to open our hearts and continue to pray. Without Jesus, we would have no celebrations. This month begins the fight for life at the supreme court. This month Covid and its variants continues to promote fears. This month people will struggle to pay their bills due to rising gas prices, shortages, fewer workers, etc. This month the enemy will not stop trying to steal, kill or destroy BUT the Lord came to give us life and have it more abundantly (John 10:10). Determine with us to press through and pray until our prayers reach heaven. That they will overflow the bowl of incense (as they are represented in heaven) and spill out onto earth. We can be yoked up to Jesus who together we can find rest for our souls and carry burdens that are light and easy to bear. Pray - for God's people to discover the truth that Jesus came to announce that captives will be released and the oppressed will be set free. May the truth about the Lord's power set them free from addictions, depression, the cares of this life, hurts and fears. May they experience such freedom and joy and power to live a transformed life free from the oppression and torment that held them down. Intercede - that the person who does not know Jesus [that you have on your heart] will discover liberty in Christ. May the Lord break the power of deception and the veil that keeps them from seeing the truth that will set them free. May they be filled with the knowledge of His love and sacrifice for them. May they come to know Him, the Savior, our Deliverer.
